Our small, family-owned business is growing, and we’re looking for someone who can grow with us.
We produce several print publications serving communities throughout Lancaster County and beyond, including a large weekly publication with a circulation of about 25,000 homes. As our publications continue to grow, we’re looking for another person to join the team.
This position starts with customer service and ad coordination, including communicating with customers and processing hundreds of ad placements each week.
Our customers communicate by phone, email, and postal mail, so you’ll need to be comfortable with all three. A typical ad order may arrive in pieces: a phone call with instructions, an emailed photo, a mailed payment, a note from a previous week, or changes to an existing ad.
Your job is to gather those puzzle pieces, make sense of them, and turn them into complete, accurate ad orders while pleasantly communicating with customers throughout the day.
For the right person, we’d like this role to grow beyond customer service and ad coordination into publication layout and production.
This is not necessarily a role for an “artsy” graphic designer.
We’re more interested in someone who enjoys functional design, information organization, details, systems, and visual problem-solving. You might be the kind of person who actually enjoys figuring out how 800 different pieces can fit together on a page…or across an entire publication.
Our publication team uses Adobe InDesign to assemble ads and information into finished pages and publications. Previous InDesign experience is helpful, but it isn’t necessarily required. Some of our strongest publication team members came to us with only a little print/design experience and learned the technical skills here.
Experience with Adobe InDesign, print production, page layout, prepress, publishing, or similar work would be a definite plus. But we’re also interested in someone with the right aptitude who is eager to learn.
Some work can be done remotely after training, but every Thursday the team works together in Lancaster County (East Hempfield).
The core customer service/ad coordinator role is expected to be approximately 25–35 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be available for someone who develops into the layout and publication role.
We’re a small, close-knit team with a hard-working but informal atmosphere. We value people who take responsibility for their work, communicate well, pay attention to details, and are willing to learn.
Please submit your resume along with a paragraph or two describing how you see yourself contributing to our team.
We’re particularly interested in hearing about the kind of work you naturally enjoy. If the layout portion of this position caught your attention, tell us why—even if you don’t consider yourself a traditional graphic designer.
